Question 1

What is ADAS calibration and why is it necessary?

Accepted Answer

ADAS calibration is the precise aiming and verification of advanced driver assistance system sensors — including cameras, radar, and lidar — so safety features like lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking function as the manufacturer intended. Calibration is required after collision repairs, windshield replacement, suspension work, and wheel alignment on most 2020 and newer vehicles.

Question 2

Do I need ADAS calibration after a wheel alignment?

Accepted Answer

On most vehicles built after 2020, yes. Major manufacturers including GM, Ford, Toyota, and Honda have issued position statements requiring ADAS recalibration after a wheel alignment. Adjusting camber, caster, or toe can change the geometric relationship between sensors and the road, which can cause safety systems to misread vehicle direction.
